LIA RUBEL WINS BARRE ROTARY CLUB YOUTH SPEECH CONTEST FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW
Speech Contest: Service Above Self
Caroline Earle introduced Lia Rubel, speaking as a participant of the Rotary Speech Contest. In her introduction Caroline pointed out that this is Liaâs third time as a competitor. She has won a Green and Gold full scholarship to UVM, if she chooses to attend and has been awarded one of the two Vermont United States Senate scholarships worth $10,000. The contest consists of four rounds with the potential of winning $1000. This yearâs topic was: âHow can âService Above Selfâ be an Inspiration to Others?â Contestants prepare and deliver a five minute speech which relates the relevance of this topic to teamwork and to everyday relationships. Although contest rules prohibit the publication of the speech or a summary of it until the conclusion of the contest in May, I can report that Lia did a great job and her speech was enthusiastically received by the members in attendance.
