The Rotary Club of Barre has agreed to manage the concession stand at the BOR ice rink.  Initially, just for SHS Boys and Girls home games, we see the obligation to open for Black Bear Hockey, public skating, and Barre Figure Skating events, and potentially other functions held at the BOR. Black Bear Hockey has replaced BYSA Hockey and has games every Friday Night (Friday Night Lights) and weekend mornings.

Rotarian Ed Rousse is spearheading this effort and is responsible for inventory, pricing, and volunteer scheduling.  Barre Rotary has the VT Rooms & Meals Tax license and is responsible for all taxes.  As a “turnkey” operation, Ed will teach and train volunteers to serve patrons during events held at the ice rink.  Barre Rotary is willing to share the profits with organizations that volunteer.  You can sign up together or step in with others scheduled for each event.  Our goal is to open the concession stand when patrons attend events, prepare and serve the items we have for sale, manage the cash transactions, keep the room tidy, and have fun.  Item prices are easy to remember as all items are currently $2 (all candy, soda, popcorn, water, Gatorade, coffee or tea) or $3 (hot chocolate/cappuccino, pretzels, hot dogs/sausage).

Hands-on training is easiest when you show up at the concession stand 30 minutes before the event starts.  It’s very casual, sometimes slow and occasionally busy (between periods) and the tasks are simple and manageable for most, once you’ve done it a few times.  I can go over each function and the most efficient way to do it as you serve the customers.  Myself or another Rotarian will typically be there to open or close and there is a BOR Concession Stand manual for easy reference on each task.

Please contact me to discuss details and to volunteer for some shifts!

Yours in Service,
