Volunteers Needed!

President Eddie with seventeen Rotarians and four guests recited the Pledge of Allegiance and then he expressed gratitude for Angelina and her upcoming shower, the beautiful snow that has covered the landscape and the food we’re about to eat.

He announced that our club will be staffing the concession at the BOR beginning on January 17, 2024 and we will be responsible for thirteen events during the winter season. Volunteers are needed. Contact President Eddie.

He also passed around a sign up sheet for those who would like to volunteer at the State Basketball Tournament to be held at the Barre Auditorium.

Nicole announced that the Drop N Swap will take place in the basement of Barre Auditorium during the weekend of April 19th: set up on the 19th, drop off on the 20th and swap on April 21.

Pie for Brunch will take place Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the American Legion from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Community Grants will be awarded to recipients along with other awards.

Volunteers are needed to help at these events and to serve on committees for both events. Contact Nicole to volunteer.

Guests: Louisa Tripp, a former district governor; Charlene Rinker; Nancy Pope and Kristin Baumann.

Since Last We Met

Birthday: Jim Catone  January 13

Club anniversary: Karl Rinker  January 14, 1970  54 years

On this day in history: In 2008 American-born chess player Bobby Fischer, who became the youngest grandmaster in history when he received the title in 1958, died at age 64 in Reykjavík, Iceland.

On this day in history: In 1961 in his Farewell Address U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned that the United States must “guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence…by the military-industrial complex”; he felt that if left unchecked, it could undermine American democracy.

It was announced for the second time that Emily Stephens has applied for membership in the Barre Rotary Club. Her sponsor, Caroline Earle, entertained questions, but none were forthcoming. A vote on her application will take place at next week’s meeting.

Aldrich Receives a Donation

Kristen Baumann, Director of the Aldrich, Nancy Pope, President of the Board of Trustees and Garrett Grant, Assistant Director of the Aldrich,   assembled at the front of the room to receive a check for $13,000, the proceeds from the Annual Barre Rotary Breakfast, from President Eddie.

The Main Event: A Shower for Angelina

President Eddie yielded the floor to Nicole and Caroline, shower organizers, to celebrate the upcoming birth of Angelina and Adam’s baby.

Nicole began the festivities with closes pins (lose your pin if you say " baby."), colored index cards (send a message to the parents-to-be), an activity that simulated certain aspects of parenthood, charades with songs having a baby orientation and changing diapers on dolls which included participation of the happy couple.

Let the Rotarians eat cake! Angelina obliged by cutting into the beautifully decorated cake.

Time for gifts. Angelina proceeded to open gifts and show them to those assembled.

Until next time, that's all Rotarians.....
