A Fistful of Dollars
While twelve Rotarians and a guest were enjoying salad and stew in a bread bowl, Caroline was up with a Happy Dollar, reporting that our District has published a position on Covid-19 vaccination reflecting a civic and humanitarian viewpoint. Eddie then introduced his guest, Jason Decoteau. Doug was up next with a Happy Dollar rejoicing that Eddie saved a 1955 Life magazine which featured Christianity and gave it to him. He also gave a Sad Dollar because a family trip to Hawaii was canceled due to Covid-19. President Tony dropped off our letter regarding the Wheellock House lease. It will be considered at the January 18th Barre City Council meeting. President Tony announced that Tom has taken up the mantle as Program Chair. Tom asked us to recommend speakers for future presentations. President Tony interjected and paid a dollar for mentioning New England Cooks and Pizza Day in February. Tom asked him to pass the gavel and proposed a fine of one-and-nine on him for usurping Tom’s floor time. Without much of a defense, the fine passed. Karl tried to dun Eddie with a dollar fine for mentioning National Life, but Eddie pointed out that it was part of the introduction of his guest. It was ruled out of order.
A Constitutional Moment
Caroline quizzed us on important dates. Here are some of the most notable ones. October 1781: Cornwallis surrenders at Yorktown; May 1787: The Constitutional Convenvention opens; June 1788 The Constitution becomes effective for the ratifying states when New Hampshire is the ninth state to ratify it; June 1789: James Madison introduces proposed Bill of Rights in the House of Representatives; September 1789: Congress approves 12 amendments and sends them to the states for ratification; December 1791: Virginia ratifies the Bill of Rights, and 10 of the 12 proposed amendments become part of the Constitution.

Reminder: When members register for the noon meeting, be sure to sign up for lunch if you want one. It isn’t hard to do and if you want you can charge it on a credit card. The lunch is $15 plus a cc fee of $.50 for $15.50. You can pay with a credit card or cash at the door. A raffle ticket is a dollar more. We need to give Tim Bolton an accurate count for him to deliver.
