The Last Lunch
The Command to Stand

With rituals complete, seventeen Rotarians sat down to our last lunch at the Quarry. Of course, Tony was on his feet first as he waited oh so patiently to garner President Caroline’s attention and when he did we all heard a familiar refrain: “Pass the gavel.” Liane stepped to the plate to chair the trial (a familiar milieu of our president).  Tony proposed a fine of one-and-nine by claiming that President Caroline put the “fear of God” in Chandra for commanding her to stand in front of the group to deliver her classification talk. He then added an amendment because she didn’t have her sit at the head table as our guest speakers do. Chandra came to President Caroline’s defense by informing us that she had offered Chandra the choice of sitting at the head table or with the members. President Caroline tried using a long and convoluted defense which included the rationale for standing was to give Chandra an opportunity to face the rowdy crowd. The defense was deemed too wordy and both the amendment and fine passed.
Tony was up again to propose a fine on Karl for causing chaos on the streets of Barre with an extraordinarily high number of lights flashing on his oversized trailer. Karl said he was asked to bring the trailer to help in cleaning out the closet. He went to say that he had stopped to unload something and forgot to turn them off. Fine passed.
Liane was up next and played on her phone, Moving on Up, the theme from the television show The Jeffersons. The musical interlude was accompanied by a little dance. She threw in a Happy Dollar in celebration of our “moving on up” to the American Legion.
Ray offered six Happy Dollars for missing six meetings.
Tony was up for the third time to propose a fine of one-and-nine on Bob because he has covered the breakfast ticket market and had not left enough people in Barre for other Rotarians to whom to sell tickets. Bob retorted that he sold to quality people and they would not be in the pool of buyers who would purchase tickets from Tony. Tony admitted that he had no friends and that he bought his ticket allotment and then gave them away. Chandra came to Bob’s defense and said that she appreciated Bob’s connection to the community. Fine did not pass.
Kristin offer two dollars: a Sad Dollar because she is losing a staff member; and a Thank You dollar for helping her find a replacement, if you know someone.
Eddie gave two Happy Dollars for playing in a golf tournament (missed the details).
Karl gave a Happy Dollar because Eddie bought his building and with some of the money from the sale, Karl is going to buy hearing aids.
Tony gave a Happy Dollar in celebrating the hiring of a new staff member who had three strokes as a child and learned to walk and talk. With sincere emotion, he praised her as an inspiration.
Bob followed with a Happy Dollar expressing the hope that Tony could learn to walk and talk from his new hire.
Sue gave a Happy Dollar in celebration of the completion of the move to their new home.

Last Women Standing (Not Sitting)

The introduction was a joint venture. In introducing Chandra, President Caroline mentioned her recent promotion to Assistant Vice President and Chandra introduced herself as mortgage originator; nothing wrong with two titles. She was born and raised in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School. Chandra began her career in banking as a teller at the Chittenden Bank in Waitsfield before moving to the Montpelier branch where she developed her career towards management with continued education. Chandra found her passion for her current position in banking from a course called Residential Lending and found her niche as a mortgage loan assistant and processer. In 2007, Chandra changed her path from the profit world to the non-for-profit world and taking a position at the Central Vermont Community Land Trust as the Director of Homeownership Programs where she taught pre-purchase education workshops, provided budget and housing counseling and helped clients with financial management.  After eight years, she was offered a position with Union Bank covering the Stowe and the Central Vermont market. Presently, Union Bank is planning on moving from a small office in the Blanchard Block in Barre to the Barre-Montpelier Road which will function as a full service bank. She has an eighteen year old son who will be graduating from the Technical Center and Spaulding High School this year. Her sixteen year old daughter, Hayleigh, plays AAU sports and is also a student at Spaulding High School. Chandra is a coordinator for International Cultural Exchange Services (ICES) and she and her family have hosted five exchange students and they love doing it.

Until next time, that's all folks.....
