A Medley of Dollars
Eddie rose after Bruce gave his report to add to the coffers in the form of a Happy Dollar. He noted that Tuesday was 2/22/22 and then passed around his phone with a photo of his sister dressed in tutu pressing against a tree. Nicole was next up with two Happy Dollars: one for learning something new this week and another that had to do with Northfield. Bob rose to propose a fine of one-and-nine on George Milne for taking two cookies (Gasp !!!) and for impersonating Dick Shadroui who apparently had engaged in the same activity for many years. A case was made that George was honoring Dick who routinely took two desserts as part of his lunch. It was also pointed out that George is our senior member and is entitled to two cookies. George reminded us that Bertil is two years older than he and therefore is the senior member of the Club. Karl rose to confess that he had been taking two desserts for years. The eleven Rotarians present did not buy the defense and so the fine passed. Bruce tossed in a Happy Dollar, overjoyed that he had paid the last payment on a Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas.
Sing-A-Along
With Arthur Zorn tickling the ivories, Joe led us in singing two selections: Hey Look Me Over and Let There be Peace on Earth.
Joe reported Margo Austin, Interact Adviser, has a couple of Spaulding students interested in participating in the Speech Contest next year, but not this year. There will be no contest this year.
Minutes
The discussion of the distribution of funds to deserving organizations was the focus of today's Club Assembly. One concern was voting on the donations proposal as presented on the agenda before approving the budget. Bruce moved and Joe seconded that the Club Budget be voted on before consideration of the proposed donation budget. Karl explained that we were voting on a donation budget, not the Club budget. It was also noted that the funds will come from the Barre Rotary Foundation. Joe withdrew his second to the motion and shortly after Bruce withdrew his motion. Bob moved and George seconded that we schedule a donation distribution meeting in the future. Motion passed with one no. At this meeting, Rotarians can advocate for an organization or charity that is of interest to the Rotarian or to a significant other. In advance of this meeting, please send Eddie Rousse your request. The meeting will take place on Sunday, March 6th at 4:00 p.m. at Community National Bank.
In a separate discussion, consideration was given to making a donation of $500 to the Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce fundraiser honoring Bob Nelson. Some members thought it was inappropriate to make a donation to another organization’s fundraiser. After a brief discussion, George moved and Nicole seconded that we make a donation of $250. Motion passed.
Back to the Donations Budget. Eddie presented the spreadsheet that he had developed from information and requests that he had received. He noted that all requests may not be included, but that will add them as he receives them. Eddie moved and Tom seconded that the 2021-22 Donations Committee proposal be approved as presented: up to $15K for 2021-22 and 2022-23 for distribution; up to $12 K for undesignated; donations for 2021-22 TBD. Motion passed with 6 yes, 3 no and 2 abstentions.
