President Liane Proposes Committees

With rituals completed, we sat down to a lunch of stuffed chicken, salad, potatoes, and brownies.  President Liane rose early in the meeting to read an email from Bob Houle who would like to be a “Friend of Rotary.” She responded to him suggesting that he join. There was a brief discussion of types of membership and the opportunities which might be available for potential members and for those who want to help with our service projects.

President Liane then proposed a committee structure to bring more organization to Barre Rotary.
The committees are as follows:
  • Club Service Committee (Facebook, website, Granite Chips, public image/relations, and determine what charities receive our funds in specific fundraising events, thank you notes)
  • Community Service Committee (spearheads club’s involvement with community, plus our own members initiatives throughout the year)
  • Membership Committee (focused on new members, classification talks, fireside chats, retention, inductions)
  • Foundation Committee (foundation information to club, grants, club participation in foundation.)
  • Youth Committee (Interact, Earlyact, International youth exchange, local youth service projects)

Fines and Dollars Make a Modest Comeback

Loren gave two Happy Dollars in celebration of her and her husband taking the first real trip of their marriage (New Orleans). Kristin gave a Happy Dollar for passing a surprise audit. John gave a Happy Dollar in recognition of his daughter’s upcoming performance with the Green Mountain Youth Orchestra. George gave five dollars in remembrance of George W.H. Bush who was honored with services in Texas and in Washington, D.C. this past week. Tony gave a Sad Dollar because Cindy has become aware of his non-fining behavior. He then rose again to admonish Tom based on a conversation that he overheard between Tom and John about Tom not wanting to sit next to John. John said Tony’s version was embellished. Joe gave a Happy Dollar because Tom sat next to him. (Or something like that.)
