Rotarians Go On a Tour Thirteen Rotarians and guests Arthur Zorn and Nick Allen gathered at 802 Coffee to enjoy a lunch of soup & sandwich, coffee (of course), and a tour of the roasting facility. It was a social event and so there was a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of conversation. President Eddie introduced Nick Allen who told us a little about himself. He and his wife moved to Barre two summers ago. He has an online business which involves collecting statistics for college football teams and his wife works for a software company. They think that it’s time to become more involved in the community. President Eddie then introduced Julia Watson, current owner and daughter of the founder of Capitol Grounds. She presented a brief history of Capitol Grounds telling us that roasting coffee began at the current location in 2020. 802 Coffee is a small operation and sells coffee to select business and retail stores. They also have equipment rental as part of their operation. On the tour we learned about the process of roasting coffee. 802 Coffee imports coffee from all over the world and bags were in abundance on the floor with an indication of origin and whether it is decaf or regular and if it is organic. Once a coffee is selected, it goes into a roasting machine; one operational and another, older and classic looking and used if necessary. The coffee is cooled and put in bins before packaging. During the tour President Eddie explored the possibility of serving 802 Coffee at the Annual Breakfast. Stay turned. Rotarian always enjoy an outing and appreciate the opportunity to meet business owners and learn about their operation. This field trip was fun, interesting and informative.
