Fines Out Pace Happy Dollars
On Wednesday, July 21st, thirteen Rotarians and two guests gathered to help ourselves to a buffet of chicken, rice, mixed vegetables, salad and cookies at the American Legion. Nicole started coloring the interior of the basket green by fining herself for her phone ringing during the Opening Ceremonies. Tony appointed visiting Rotarian Doug Bullett Vice Chair for the Summer. He was voted into the Club as a member to ensure there was no violation of Rotary International rules. It was pointed out that one can belong to two clubs and Ted quoted the half price special. Tom then fined Doug to show him how much we liked him. Doug presented no defense. The fine did not pass and with a newly revived rule that the proposer of the fine must pay the fine if it does not pass, Tom had to pay the fine. He borrowed the buck from Doug. Of course he did! Karl proposed a fine of one-and-four ($.50) for all present who were not wearing a BAS (Barre Art Splash) tee shirt. Nicole provided a strong defense during which she pointed out that we were not told in advance of this requirement for ‘today’s’ meeting. An amendment was offered that proposed that $.50 be deducted from the purchase price. The amendment passed and the original proposal did not. Since the main motion failed, with the revived rule, Karl paid the fine. Tee shirts now sell for $19.50. Continuing the trend of self infliction, Eddie fined himself one-and-nine for eating before the bell rang. He also threw in a Happy Dollar in celebrating the return of the Annual Rousse Family Golf Tournament, its 58th.
