Getting to Know You
On Wednesday, July 28th, 14 Rotarians dined on sesame chicken, broccoli, rice, salad and cookies at the American Legion. A new “getting to know you” activity suggested by Bruce was launched when Loren revealed that Bob Pope had told her that he had proposed to his wife Nancy at Kezar Lake in New Hampshire. Loren had talked to Nancy and she said that she was pleased with Bob’s contribution to the activity. Stay tuned for next week’s revelation.
A Touch of Insanity
Karl proposed a fine of one-and-nine on everyone not wearing a badge. Lindsey pointed out that she was never told that it was required and, furthermore, no one had supplied one. Nicole rose to display a version of the badge-a tee shirt. Loren proposed an amendment: she would pay the fine because it was her responsibility for providing badges to new members and she had not met her responsibility. Bob proposed an amendment to the amendment claiming that the ultimate responsibility for all matters lies with the head of the current administration under the leadership of President Tony. Ted proposed an amendment to the amendment of the amendment to share the fine with Tony with a rationale I don’t recall. Lindsey proposed to “wipe it all away.” At this point Parliamentarian Pope asked President Tony to “pass the gavel,” explaining that since he is part of the fine, he cannot be in the position of ruling on the amendment of which he is a part. President Tony called for a vote and here are the results: the amendment of Tony and Ted sharing the dollar amount of the fine did not pass according to Tony, but passed according to the rest of us; Tony’s “I’ll pay” amendment did not pass; Loren’s “I’ll pay” amendment did not pass; the original amendment passed. Final disposition: Ted and Tony split the tariff and Doug threw in a buck. With that bit of fining insanity, we moved on to saner matters.
Welcome Delicate Decadence
The vote to approve the corporate membership application of Delicate Decadence was unanimous.
Oktoberfest Brunch Gets the Go Ahead
Tony and Lindsey reported on the Rotary Oktoberfest event (a brunch) being planned for October 2nd. A Barvarian band has been lined up, the Granite Museum has been reserved and Delicate Decadence as agreed to provide the food. Tony would like to sell ads for placemats and the possibility of beer tasting is being explored with local breweries. Tony asked those assembled for approval to move ahead and work out the details. Concerns were expressed regarding another event occurring so close to the Barre Art Splash and sponsoring an event for which we have little experience. It was pointed out that, given the size of our club, we are asking a lot of our members to volunteer for two events only two weeks apart. Tony told members that he already had been approached by another service club to help and he would reach out to other organizations and ask for their assistance. Tony assured us that this event could be successfully accomplished. With a seven to five vote, the request to move ahead passed.

Rotary After Dark to Return
Nicole proposed a return to Rotary After Dark which many of us enjoyed several years ago. She will come up with some ideas and present them at a future club meeting.
Until next time, that’s all folks…...
