As fifteen Rotarians sat down for lunch, Caroline garnered President Tony’s attention and gave four Happy Dollars for: Sue Poczobut “being here;” Doug Bullett “being here;” her son making the Dean’s List at Norwich; and District Governor Nominee Designate Monique Priestley’s decision to run for the Vermont House. Doug followed up with three more: for being back; praying for peace and wearing a Russian Rotary Peace Pin from the 1980’s. President Tony was nominated as a candidate for District Governor by Karl and seconded by Nicole. The motion did not pass (to Tony’s relief). Nicole added to the coffers with four additional Happy Dollars for: Sue “being here;” Doug “being here;” her new assistant; and the Changeover. Bob Blow added another five for not “being here” that much. Anti-fine Joe proposed a fine on everyone for nothing. Bob Pope noted that he (Joe) finally got it. Fine passed. Bob Pope then rose to propose a fine on Nicole and Caroline for their failure to lead by not going along with Joe’s proposed fine. Not much of a defense was presented, but still the fine didn’t pass.

Notes From Nicole
Nicole gave an update on the Changeover Dinner. It will take place at Pearl Street Pizza on Tuesday, June 28th. Invitations with the details and the menu will be sent out (and at this point have been). 30 attendees are needed and so please sign up by Wednesday, June 22nd including the number of guests.
Summer Reading
Caroline rose and announced the relinquishment of her Constitutional Moment to revive the Claire Duke tradition of recommending summer reading. She enthusiastically recommended Jennifer McMahon’s The Children on the Hill. The author is a Vermonter who started writing the novel down the street at Espresso Bueno. The other recommendation, done with emotional equality, was Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr, the author of the critically acclaimedAll the Light We Cannot See.
IOY
Joe, without cash, pledged an IOY of $5.00 for the arrest and prevention of those who would have been responsible for a horrifying incident of a potential attack in Idaho at a Pride event.
Rousse Reports
Eddie presented an update on the planning for the return of the Barre Club Rotary Breakfast. He is soliciting donations of maple syrup which this year will be in squeeze bottles. The problem of securing a tent, since the company with which we had made a deposit is no longer in business, was discussed and several suggestions were proposed for its solution. Karl reported that propane had been donated and secured. He will need four strong individuals on July 25th to clean grills and load them into his trailer. On July 29 the same will be needed to load tables and chairs to transport them to Aldrich; and again on August 1st to return the tables and chairs to the Barre Auditorium. Eddie told us that Quality Market is obtaining items necessary for the breakfast with deals and donations. The Elks Club is helping, as usual, with utensils, pans and electricity. He is working with Casella on receptacles for trash, recycling and compost. All is going well according to plan. (This investigative reporter has learned that the tent problem has been solved.)
District Changeover
Over the weekend the District Changeover Event took place at Rotary Park in Barre on a cold and windy day in summer! Huddled in the newly stained shelter, Rotarians of District 7850 convened for the annual District Changeover Event which included a non-business meeting, reports, guest presentations, accolades, giving of gifts, a Polio Plus raffle, and remarks by outgoing District Governor Mike Carrier and incoming District Governor, our own Caroline Earle. Caroline started by recognizing Mike’s accomplishments and giving him gifts reflective of his time of service as District Governor. She continued by thanking her family for their role in her Rotary activities, describing their support and participation. She went on to thank her club, the Rotary Club of Barre and talked about working on projects together and of friendship, creativity and good works. Her final words outlined three themes that we will hear from her this year: WHAT IF…..imagine; the personal transformational power of Rotary; and focusing on a social media campaign which details the benefits of Rotary.
After a lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs and sides, the group assembled at the Barre City Elementary School to package meals for Rise Against Hunger.
