Pass The Gavel
On Tuesday, June 29th, twenty-six Rotarians and their guests met in person at Alimentari Roscini (AR Market) for the Annual Changeover Dinner. The evening started with wine and appetizer plates featuring Italian products, some made on the premises and available in the retail section. During the salad course, President John called the meeting to order and delivered his “Farewell Speech.” He received a round of applause for navigating the club and its meetings in an
extraordinarily difficult year. He presented tokens of appreciation to those officers who helped him complete a successful year as president. He also presented the
Rotarian of the Year Award to Ted Goulette. President John noted that he quietly works behind the scenes and he is always there when he is needed.
President John asked Past District Governor Louisa Tripp to recognize this year’s Paul Harris Fellows. Many members have been named fellows several times. A complete list of fellows can be found on our website under “Club Information.”
President John asked Nancy Pope, Chair of the Board, and Loren Polk, Director of the Aldrich Public Library, to come forward. He presented them with a check for $13,180 for the Library, a real achievement considering that the Annual Rotary Breakfast was not held. Before passing the gavel, he presented Tony Campos with the President’s Pin, a long standing tradition of Changeover.
New Hands on the Gavel
President Tony accepted the gavel and the opportunity to give his “Vision Speech.” In his remarks he called us to action,“we are doers,”and reminded us that we are leaders. He paid tribute to four Barre Rotarians who are no longer with us: Dick Parnigoni, Ron Parnigoni, Bill Rossi and Dick Shadroui. In honor of Dick Shadroui and his service to the country in World War II, we sang It’s a Long Way to Tipperary. Tony then presented the Past President’s pin to John, recognizing a “job well done.” After a few remarks and the usual Barre Rotary Club banter, we resumed a dinner of lasagna, wine and dessert, a Rotary
wheel decorated cake, and lots of lively conversation.
