Gratefulness and Dollars
After the Pledge of Allegiance and a feeble attempt at My Country Tis’ of Thee, President Nicole asked if anyone had gratitude. Tony was grateful that his wife Cindy and his daughter were home and had a great time in Mexico. Joe gave two dollars for polio, a Sad Dollar because his cousin Phyllis is in the hospital and a Happy Dollar for the Methodist Dinner Theater and his part in the show.

On this day in history: 2004--In what was perhaps the most controversial halftime show in Super Bowl history, pop singer Janet Jackson experienced a “wardrobe malfunction” when part of her bustier was ripped off by Justin Timberlake; some argued it was accidental while others said it was premeditated.
1960--Protesting a segregated lunch counter at a Woolworth's in Greensboro, North Carolina, four African Americans began a sit-in: its success led to a wider sit-in movement throughout the South.

Reports--Dollars--A Fine
President Nicole gave a brief report of the Board of Directors meeting. Planning for the Pie for Brunch event is progressing and will take place on April 8, 2023. She will work on having an RI person online for our next Board meeting. The RFP community grant applications announcement will be made by January 30, 2023. Nicole also reported that Loren has contacted the schools regarding the distribution of dictionaries and atlases. She called on DG Caroline, the chair this year, to discuss RYLA. The event will take place for three days in June at the Lyndon campus of Northern Vermont University. Her firm will sponsor one attendee and she will seek sponsorship from businesses for other sponsors with the Club supporting attendees as well. Tony moved and Ted seconded that the Barre Rotary Club sponsor up to three participants. Motion passed unanimously.
Eddie will chair the Annual Breakfast Committee. Tony reported that he will have tickets soon; Bob has secured the tent and Eddie will contact Capital Candy.
Tony proposed a fine of one-and-nine on Karl for his Easy Rider look--a bandana like Peter Fonda wore in the movie. Ted seconded. Karl defended himself by saying that he only wanted to be a wannabe. Fine passed.
DG Caroline gave a dollar to the polio cylinder and a Happy Dollar for the Club’s support of RYLA. Tony added to HappyDollars for doing a great job in all respects of what she does for Rotary.
A Trip to Nepal
Tom introduced today’s speaker. Hereeeeees……..Nicole!
President Nicole’s presentation focused on life in Nepal including customs, people and the food. She showed many photos of where Nepalese live, either in the Himalayan mountains or on the plains. The major religion is Hinduism with smaller numbers of the population following Buddhist, Islamic and Christian traditions. She met with Nepal Rotary Club and learned of their many accomplishments, several through partnerships. She and her traveling party made new friends and will continue to build a relationship with the people of Nepal.
Until next time, that's all folks......
